A recent health scare caused by “burnout” has seen Carol Vorderman redress her work schedule – and ditch her phone.
Carol, 63, was hospitalised and underwent medical examinations, and has since stripped back her work regime. She will attempt to work remotely via social media, to cut down her travelling, and will no longer host her weekend radio show. She says she has taken the incident as a “warning”, and will now prioritise her health.
“I had a little bit of a health scare a couple of weeks ago, it was just burnout,” she said, speaking at the Chelteham Literature festival.” I’m quite fine, I had all the checks and everything, but I can’t work seven day weeks anymore, so I’m going to centre on social media a lot more in the future rather than travelling up to London all the time.
“I now switch my phone off for 12 hours a day. Like physically off. Tends to be over the night time hours. But it’s quite a good thing, you know when you just have it by the bed and you just reach out. I’ll just have a little look… Ahh, two hours later.” Over the weekend, she explained her upcoming absence by telling her social media followers: “After working 7-day weeks for as long as I can remember, I finally burned out just over 2 weeks ago and I ended up overnight in hospital.

She clarified of her health: “Luckily, after many scans and checks, we know that I don’t have any underlying health issues whatsoever. So, after a proper talking to from my family and my buddies, I’ve taken the health scare as a warning sign to slow down slightly and have decided to cut my work back to weekdays for now.
“It pains me to have to do it, but I’ve decided not to carry on with my Sunday show on LBC.” She admitted she felt “fed up” that she had to now go a bit slower. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to cause trouble,” she continued: “I’ll be continuing to make a lot of mischief and call out corruption and wrongdoing – that isn’t stopping but for now an ever so slightly less frenetic chapter begins.”
Speaking previously about her health scare, Carol told fans: “After working 7-day weeks for as long as I can remember, I finally burned out just over 2 weeks ago and I ended up overnight in hospital,” she said online. “Luckily, after many scans and checks, we know that I don’t have any underlying health issues whatsoever. So, after a proper talking to from my family and my buddies, I’ve taken the health scare as a warning sign to slow down slightly and have decided to cut my work back to weekdays for now.”
Carol has released a new book, Now What?, and regularly appears on panel shows and offers political commentary.
