Heidi Klum is opening up about the process behind her iconic Halloween costumes and how she always keeps her fans in mind when choosing what (or whom) she’s going to dress up as each year.
With the spookiest night of the year only a few weeks away, the supermodel spoke to People about her upcoming costume.
“I have a lot of creative people around the world that are fans, that are artists — makeup artists, hairdressers, designers or people who maybe are not even in the field — and they love the creativity of Halloween,” she told the publication.
Klum also noted, “I don’t want to ever let any of my Halloween fans down. I always really try to come up with something that is unique and different and either surprises people or shocks people.”
Last year, she dressed up as a peacock, a costume which she told The Hollywood Reporter took her six hours to put on. She explained, at the time, that her thought process was to find a costume that involved a lot of people, so that when they’re all crunched together in a position they become one.
In a separate conversation with People, the America’s Got Talent judge revealed she had been working on this year’s costume for months because molds and prosthetics needed to be made and fittings needed to be had.
“There goes a lot into it because I wanted to be so spectacular that this is not something I can just throw together overnight,” she said. “It takes a long time. It takes a lot of planning. And also then when I do the reveal, I want to have a special reveal because I know I have so many fans, and those particular Halloween fans are people who love also dressing up and coming up with amazing things.”
Over the years, Klum has dressed up as a rainworm, Jessica Rabbit, Betty Boop, her inner self and an ape, among many others.
