Johnny Depp reignited his feud with Amber Heard by saying he will never forget what he went through with her after the pair’s high-profile and very public legal battle following accusations of abuse through their relationship, which began around 2012.
The couple married in 2015 after admitting there was an “undeniable chemistry” between them, but things quickly soured and in 2017, Heard filed for divorce as well as a temporary restraining order against the Pirates of the Caribbean star.
Things then calmed until 2019 when he sued the Aquaman actress regarding an op-ed she wrote in 2018 where she expanded on her claims of abuse, kicking off their 2022 Depp v. Heard case in Fairfax County Circuit Court.
It quickly became a circus and was livestreamed to the public, splitting people on social media whilst the legal battle remained under intense scrutiny.
Ultimately, the Court ruled Heard was liable for three counts of defamation and had to pay $10m dollars whilst Depp was liable for one count out of three and had to pay $2m and the Sweeney Todd actor reflected on it at a film festival as per RadarOnline.com.
“Each has their story,” Depp told press at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. “Sure, we can say that I’ve been through a number of things here and there. But, you know, I’m alright.
“I think we’ve all been through a number of things, ultimately. Maybe yours wasn’t… didn’t turn into a soap opera, televised, in fact.
“But we all experience and go through what we go through. And those things that we are able to live and remember and use, these are your stripes. You never forget them.”
Depp attacks Hollywood
The 61-year-old actor from Kentucky was in San Sebastian to promote Modi, based on the life of an artist living in 1916 France, set in the same period of modern history as the First World War.
A biographical drama, Depp is director and has produced the flick alongside Al Pacino. It will be his second attempt at directing a film after 1997’s Brave received unfavorable reviews from critics.
It sees him attempting to re-establish his career following the battle with Heard, which effectively saw him blacklisted from Hollywood as he also lost his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, set in the Harry Potter universe and he thinks he no longer needs Hollywood.
“Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all,” Depp added. “But I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about it. I don’t think about Hollywood.
“I don’t have much further need for Hollywood myself.”
