Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have announced they are separating

Deborra-Lee Furness has reportedly told friends that her ex-husband Hugh Jackman’s romance with Sutton Foster will last “just one year before it collapses.”

Furness, 69, and Jackman, 56, separated in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage in a surprise move that shocked Hollywood insiders.

The Wolverine star has since gone public with his new relationship with Foster, who he first met in 2021 while they were both still married and starring in the musical Music Man.

Insiders close to Furness have claimed the actress “had suspicions” about Jackman and Foster and felt “vindicated” after paparazzi photos confirmed the relationship last month.

On Thursday, American outlet RadarOnline.com claimed Furness has recently told friends she “doesn’t think the new relationship will last”.

“Debs can spot a midlife crisis from miles away, and she knows Hugh better than anyone,” a source close to Furness said.

“He’s needy and he will cry on Sutton’s shoulder and try to help her solve her problems, but he won’t give her space – and that’s just the beginning of why it won’t work out, in her opinion.

“It doesn’t take Einstein to see Hugh is infatuated. But Debs is telling friends it’ll fizzle out before long.”

Furness originally met Jackman when he was just starting out in the Aussie entertainment industry on the set of the miniseries Corelli and wed the future movie star in 1996.

Within a decade, Jackman had emerged as one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood thanks to his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, while Furness primarily focused on raising the couple’s children.

According to an insider who worked on Music Man, Furness warmly opened her New York home to Foster and enjoyed double dates with Jackman, Foster and Foster’s then-husband Ted Griffin.

“They had dinners with each other’s spouses and Sutton and her husband Ted were invited over for dinner with Hugh and his wife Deborra-Lee,” the source told Daily Mail.com last month.

Meanwhile, Furness herself recently told a journalist that she was and was interested in reviving her acting career.

“I’ve got some projects in New York. I’m in my chapter three. I’m a creative, I love being creative in a variety of areas and I think I’ll be doing more travelling,” she told the Herald Sun last month.
