To show his love for his new girlfriend, who is 50 years younger than him, after 4 divorces, Larry Ellison, 77, has spent so much that he built a restaurant chain named after her in Carbon Beach.
“Godfather” of the technology industry: 2 times dropout, famous for being a playboy and extravagant but extremely sober with money, 76 years old still “crazy” about loveFrom a student who dropped out of school twice because he couldn’t afford tuition, billionaire Larry Ellison has become one of the most famous tycoons in America. In 2019, he was listed by Forbes magazine as the 3rd richest person in the US and the 6th richest in the world with a net worth of up to 91 billion USD.LATEST NEWSA not-so-peaceful childhoodLarry Ellison was born in 1944 in the Bronx, New York City. He was orphaned by his father, his mother was Florence Spellman. When Larry was nine months old, he contracted pneumonia and his mother, then 19, sent him to live with his uncle Lilian and aunt Louis Ellison in Chicago.
They did not see each other again until he was 48.
Larry was later adopted by a Russian immigrant. His adoptive father named him Ellison, a tribute to the first place in America he set foot: Ellis Island.
As a young boy, Larry Ellison showed the independent, rebellious personality of a future leader, often clashing with his adoptive father. Although raised in a Reform Jewish family, he was skeptical about religion. At age 13, he refused to have a bar mitzvah, a Jewish rite of passage marking the age of 13.
Ellison also showed a passion and talent for math and science from an early age. But that talent did not help him complete his education later. In 1958, Larry Ellison graduated from Eugene Field High School in Chicago and then attended Sullivan High School until the spring of 1959 before transferring to the middle-class school South Shore. Then, he entered the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
After studying at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for 2 years, he dropped out because his adoptive mother passed away. He continued his studies at the University of Chicago but after only one semester, Larry had to end his formal education permanently due to the financial burden of his family.

Starting from scratchIn 1966, 22-year-old Larry Ellison decided to go far away. With some savings, he left Chicago and moved to Berkeley, California.
This was a time when the technology industry was about to make great strides. Ellison’s neighborhood at the time bordered what was soon to become a hub for America’s top tech brains, which would soon become known as Silicon Valley.
Over the next eight years, Larry held a series of jobs that allowed him to rapidly develop his computer and programming skills. These included working as a technician for financial services company Wells Fargo and as a programmer for computer manufacturer Amdahl. While at Amdahl, he joined the team that built the IBM System R database.
Ellison then worked at the electronics company Ampex, which had a contract to build an information database for the CIA under the code name “Oracle.” And this is the name that billionaire Larry Ellison later gave to his corporation.
