Back in 2019, Jaah Kelly opened up to Paper Magazine about gender and sexuality. His mother, Drea Kelly, praised her trans son, telling VH1, “All I can say about Jay is he makes it so easy to be a proud mom. For parents, we need to realize [that our kids] have their own journey. Parents get it wrong when they don’t support their children. They have to go out and fight every day and face this world. The first battle should not be at home. While performing at the L.A. Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala, Lopez introduced her 14-year-old child Emme using gender-neutral pronouns and furthermore, affirming Emme’s pronouns. They went on to sing a cover of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.”

Busy Philipps’ eldest kid, Birdie, uses they/them pronouns. Busy mentioned on her podcast, Busy Phillips Is Doing Her Best, that she got permission from Birdie before speaking about it publicly, telling listeners, “Bird was like, ‘I don’t give a fuck. You can talk about that I’m gay and out; you can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great.’”

The legendary actor wrote in an Instagram post on her trans daughter’s birthday, “Today is the birthday of my trans daughter. I am proud and grateful to be the parent of a trans child and am sending support to all of the trans families across the US who are being targeted in this moment by conservative legislatures.”

While neither parent has commented further on how they identify, John has been wearing suits and other gender-nonconforming clothing for years.
