After parting ways with Lee Majors, Fawcett entered into a relationship with actor Ryan O’Neal, notable for his role in the 1970 film “Love Story.”
The couple remained together for two decades and had a son named Redmond. Despite never officially marrying, their enduring relationship became a prominent fixture in Hollywood.
Their relationship faced a setback in 1997 when they separated after 17 years. However, they reunited four years later when O’Neal was diagnosed with cancer.
Fawcett stood by his side during his recovery, but tragedy struck when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
Fawcett’s battle with cancer was arduous. In the same year she was diagnosed with anal cancer, her mother passed away. Anal cancer was a rare diagnosis at the time, affecting only around five Americans annually.
Seeking treatment at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute under the care of Dr. Lawrence Piro, Fawcett underwent extensive treatment, though a cure proved elusive.
O’Neal moved in with her, and they pursued alternative cancer treatments in Germany. Sadly, Fawcett passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 62.
Following her passing, her ex-husband Lee Majors expressed his sorrow, describing her as an angel on Earth who fought valiantly against the disease.
Majors revealed that he had selected the iconic image of Fawcett for the “Charlie’s Angels” poster.
Reflecting on their relationship, Majors shared a poignant memory of him and Fawcett captured in a photograph from a 1977 edition of People Magazine.
He recalled their emotional conversation before her death, acknowledging the complexities of their marriage due to their demanding careers.
In 2016, Majors reminisced about the challenges they faced as a couple, including spending limited time together due to their work commitments.
Despite the difficulties, Majors expressed pride in his enduring relationship with his current wife.
Even at 84 years old, Majors remained active, voicing a character in the show “Thunderbirds Are Go.” While he cherished memories of his time with Fawcett, he looked ahead with optimism, embracing new opportunities and experiences.
