Chris Martin has revealed that he paid his 13-year-old son to co-write a song about getting drunk.
The Coldplay singer said that his son, Moses, had helped to write the song for the bands highly anticipated eighth album, Everyday Life – and that he was fairly compensated for his efforts.
Both of Martin’s children with actor Gwyneth Paltrow, who he famously “consciously uncoupled” with in 2014, feature on the track, titled Orphans.
When asked how Apple, 15 and Moses, 13, came to be involved with the album the 42-year old replied: “I asked them.
“And I pay them, proper fees like everyone.
“And they are allowed to say no,” he told the Sunday Times.
In the Orphans’ music video Moses can be heard at the beginning of the track suggesting his father uses the lyrics ‘boom boom ka buba de ka’.
The song continues: “I want to know when I can go back and get drunk with my friends”.
The 13-year old is believed to have been given a co-writing credit, while Apple is heard singing as part of the choir at the end of the song.
It’s not the first time that Apple and Moses have collaborated with their father.
The two performed backing vocals during Coldplay’s headlining act at Glastonbury in 2016, while proud mum Gwyneth Paltrow watched. Coldplay have headlined the festival four times.
The siblings’ talents were further showcased when videos of them singing, accompanied by Martin on the piano, were shared on social media in 2016.
But, this is the first known time that the two have been compensated for their skill and the fees are likely to be substantial.
The band’s most recent tour grossed $523m (£405m) in ticket sales and 85 million albums have been sold to date.
Last week Martin said the band, which includes pianist Will Champion, bass guitarist Guy Berryman and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, would not be touring this album until they could find a way to make it sustainable.
Martin has also enlisted his girlfriend, actor Dakota Johnson, to direct a music video for their upcoming single Cry, Cry, Cry.
Everyday Life was released last Friday and includes 16 songs with the first half titled Sunrise and the second Sunset.
