Gilbert moved to Michigan for her husband, stating it was not just for love but also selfpreservation. The pair realized they could make the house their own after ignoring the mold and rats. On top of that, the plumbing was clogged and the house was cold. Since some of the former tenants’ belongings were remained in the house, they had to remove them.
The couple heated a house using a wood stove, added red vinyl chairs, a farm table, and refurbished cabinets. They added quirky touches like Donald Duck figurines and Coca-Cola syrup bottles. Gilbert and her husband worked together, with Busfield wanting to be part of the process.
Gilbert’s life on the prairie involves a natural lifestyle, growing fruit and vegetables, and living on the outskirts of town. She enjoys the therapy of peeling off deer heads and turning the loft into a music room.
Gilbert enjoys a peaceful morning with tea and chicken chores, enjoying her marital bliss and harmonious home. Initially disagreeing on furniture, they eventually love the brown recliner and grandpa chair.
Living away from the spotlight has reignited Gilbert’s love for the outdoors, although she was primarily sorry about the family she left behind when she departed Los Angeles.
